
Video: Pick-up van crammed with cows, oxen tilts on way to slaughter house; firemen come to rescue

This is just an instance of how recklessly and inhumanely animals are taken to slaughter houses in Kerala from other states.
The incident took place at Logos Junction around 5.40 pm on Friday.
A pick-up van crammed with cows and oxen lost balance while ascending a steep road and titled upwards.
A major tragedy was averted by the intervention of the fire force, thanks to their sincere efforts. The pick-up truck was carrying bovines from Pollachi in Tamil Nadu and was on its way to the slaughter houses at Karukachal in Kottayam.
As the pickup van was climb the steep road, all the bovines slid backwards to the back part of the van floor. As the rear-side weight increased, the front part of the vehicle including driver’s cabin got titled upwards. The driver and the policemen who were nearby made all efforts to bring the upper portion of the vehicle down, but to of no avail. Eventually, firefighters worked hard to straighten the vehicle. The firefighting team climbed onto the bonnet of the pickup van and tied the upper part to the fire engine. Slowly and carefully the pickup was brought to it normal horizontal positon in about half an hour.
However, the Police imposed a fine on the vehicle for overloading it with bovines. The rescue operation was led by Station Officer Anoop Raveendran, Asst. Station Officer Ajit Kumar PN and Senior Fire Officer P V Santhosh.
