Coalition governments are firming up as elections take place in municipalities and metros across the country and South Africans are finding out who will govern their areas.
Nelson Mandela Bay will be run by an ANC led coalition after the party's Eugene Johnson was elected mayor. She beat the DA's Nqaba Bhanga by one vote.
The Metro's council was split evenly between the ANC and DA followed by the EFF with nine seats, the National Assembly with three the ACDP and Freedom Front Plus with two.
In Tshwane the DA has said it's confident it will be able to form a workable coalition.
Voting is not yet underway.
And Johannesburg is still up for grabs. The DAs Helen Zille wrote before the voting that the DA does not want to join a minority coalition in Johannesburg because it will not be able to govern without the support of th EFF. That suggests that Joburg could go to the ANC.
But things are becoming more complicated after a DA councillor was elected speaker in Ekurhuleni.
The DA only has 65 seats in Ekurhuleni but Raymond Dhlamini got 116 votes.
This suggests the DA candidate may have been supported by ActionSA and the EFF.
Zille told journalsts ts in a break the party was now willing to vote with anyone - but said the DA did not solicit votes from the EFF.
To discuss we're joined by the North WEst University Political Studies lecturer, Sysman Motloung.
