Friday, time for a new tip to get the best out of your racing pigeons. This week… How to administer medication the best way!
It's November now and here at Europigeons we give the pigeons a Paratyphus cure just to be sure the pigeons are clean for the next season. We do this when the pigeons are almost ready moulting, we started a little over a week ago… When do this, we always administer the medication over the feed! If you have the chance, give medication over the feed instead of in the drinking water!
Maybe you also noticed already that in winter time pigeons drink not much. In summer, they drink op to 2x more than in winter time. So if you want to be sure you give your pigeons the right doses, it is much better to give the medication over the feed.
To make sure the medication sticks to every seed of your feed you can mix the medication with some other fluid like Roosvicee (fruit syrup), buttermilk, Sedochol or some oil… Make sure you mix it properly, so every seed is covered with some fluid!
What's also important for most of the medication is to take away the grit! The Calcium in it decreases the effect of the drug… Specially if you use medication for airway problems. In this case, it’s not really necessary, but I still would advise taking the grit away for a few days
I just want to add that if your pigeons are really sick, you better use capsules or tablets and treat every pigeon individual because really sick pigeons often do not eat enough!
