Azam Bai Pisal: A Classical Vocalist of Truly Exceptional Quality.

Bai Azam Bai of Kolhapur (Also Known as Azambai Pisal) born on 7 December 1906, gets Recorded by the Odeon Records Gramophone Company of British Raj. Azam Bai,s real name was Vidya Pisal and the Title of Azambai was given to her by the Station Director of A.I.R. Mr Bukhari. She hailed from Kolhapur and except Naganand, she does not seem to have acted in any other film. Film Naganand was a Bi-Lingual film, in Marathi and Hindi. Even C. Ramchandra (Ram Chitalkar, then) had sung 2 songs in it. She Was Initially Trained by Jaipur Atrawli Gharana Doyen Ustad Alladiya Khan (I Am Very Partial Towards Exponents of This Gharana Due to Several Reasons Off Course) And Later by The Doyen's Sons, Manji Khan & Burji Khan. According To Few Sources, She May Have Trained Under the Guidance of Sangeet Ratan Ustad Abdul Karim Khan of Kirana Gharana Too (For A Short-period Like the Unmatchable Surashri Kesarbai Kerkar). Only Around Two Dozen of Her Records Have Survived Within Collectors' Archives till Day. This Record Was Cut Down In 1936. Hindustani Classical Music, Channelized Magically in Pet Alladiya Khani Ang, At Its Best Indeed. She died on 25 July 1986 in Kolhapur, Maharashtra (India).
